Two frequencies are used in Belgium: 900 Mhz and 1800 Mhz. The combined use of the two frequencies is called dual band.
Using 900 Mhz you can cover more ground. That makes for fewer telephone towers.
Using 1800 Mhz you achieve a higher voice quality, but you need more towers.
All mobile operators in Belgium work on the dual band network, both on 900 Mhz and 1800 Mhz. This combines a wider coverage with a better sound quality. In order to be able to use dual band, you need a gsm mobile suitable for dual band, of course. There are some older gsm mobiles that only work on 900 Mhz or 1800 Mhz. You can check your telephone’s manual.
